Our soil testing laboratory enables you to assess the suitability of the soil, providing you with vital data for informed decision making and planning.
The soil testing laboratory of GED is a well-equipped laboratory in Sri Lanka with superior laboratory facilities and well trained, flexible staff to conduct all the testing according to international test methods.
Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory has been established to carry out soil testing as per ISO/IEC 17025 for following soil test
a) Atterberg Limits Test (Cone penetrometer Method and Casagrande Method) (Scope 1)
b) Direct Shear Test (Small shear box) (Scope 1)
c) Triaxial (UU) Test (Scope 2)
d) Consolidation Test (Oedometer Apparatus) (Scope 2)
The service provided is ISO 17025 accredited (Certificate)
All the non accredited soil testing are carried out as per BS, ASTM, AASHTO, ASTO, IS

Obtaining our services
Opens hours: from 8.45 am to 4.15pm (Monday to Friday)
Upon a request in advance, submission of samples during off hours can be arranged.
Step 1: Getting quotations
A written request should be made on the prescribed format (Sample acceptance form) or by a official request letter issued by the client and sent to the laboratory by e-mail, post or faxed to the numbers given in below or you can visit our laboratory.
Step 2: Submission of samples
Laboratory accepts properly sealed soil samples in either disturbed or undisturbed conditions/ form. Undisturbed samples collected using undisturbed sampling tube or box should be submitted. Please refer the Table 1 for required type and required quantity of soil sample for each test.
Step 3: Payment method
Payment can be done by cash or by cheques (draw in favor of “National Building Research Organisation” and address to Director CC. Account, Finance Division, NBRO)
Step 4: Issuing of reports
Test reports can be collect from the laboratory or a scanned copy of the report can be issued via email upon the request from the customer.
