2nd Training programme on Risk mapping and Run out area assessment were held on 26th September to 30th September 2017 at Bandarawela Sri Lanka. The programme was conducted under Community Landslide Risk Mitigation Project which is implemented by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) in collaboration with Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). 

Community Landslide Risk Mitigation project is implemented by the National Building Research Organisation(NBRO) for undertaking a systematic approach for reducing the impacts of landslides, which are considered to be one of the major hazard events, responsible for disturbing the economic stability of hill country districts in Sri Lanka. This World Bank funded initiative will help the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) in unifying the efforts of all related government agencies, other stakeholders in landslide disaster risk management and to establish a comprehensive framework and operational long-term action plan for landslide disaster risk management in Sri Lanka. Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in partnership with Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) is providing technical inputs to the project in building the capacity of agencies involved in landslide risk management.

As a part of the project, Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in partnership with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) conducted a 2nd training on Run out area assessment and risk mapping during the period from 26th September – 30th September at Bandarawela. 24 participants from National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) attended the training and subjects such as landslide initiation identification, run out area simulation, selection of mitigation options, loss-benefit analysis were included in the training programme. The training programme further introduced new software such as TRIGRS, Dan 3D and new decision support system – a tool box for analysing and predicting best approaches for mitigation of landslide risk.
